As part of the screenshots that inkscape.org published to promote the new features of release 0.45, there was a nifty little tutorial that demonstrated a cool effect that could make 3d like tubes and ropes using the new gaussian blur feature.

Anyhoo, when valessiobrito uploaded a simple paperclip to the open clip art library i took my chance to utilise the technique outlined in the inkscape tutorial to remix the paperclip to give it bit more of a “3d” feel.

offtopic: I just noticed the blogroll on your sidebar and juss added one on mine. unfortunately, I don’t have many people do link there…
back on topic: I knew this rope tutorial from Bulia and for a looong timpe planned about expanding on it. Your remixed paperclip is very cool.

thanks for the nice tutorial.
except that i am unable to change the color of a clone. (inkscape ver.0.45.1) – i can only change the blur and master opacity.

You can change the color of a clone- just unset the paint or stroke of the original (the “?” icon in the fill and stroke dialog box, not the “x”) and change the clone’s attributes.

THX Gooli that was my problem too!
But here is another question, if I group all my objects at the end, the Blur is gone. That is like that, right? Because the Papaerclip is not grouped either.
